We are all good now and eager to have you as our guest for this amazing 5 course Mead & Dinner tasting. Mead is the oldest form of alcohol known, made from honey, water and yeast. This tasting will feature meads from New Jersey’s only two local meaderies paired with a delicious, locally sourced 5-course menu prepared by our own Chef, Chloe Kliwinski. You can dine in either the historic 1744 original dining room with 15′ stone fireplace or in the newly added conservatory kitchen at the chef’s table.
What does mead taste like? From wildflowers to orange blossoms, honey tastes like the flowers of its local region. Therefore, mead comes in a variety of diverse and complex flavor profiles. How mead tastes depends on the type of honey, how dry or sweet it was crafted to be, and whether or not additional flavors were added. Traditional mead contains only honey, water, and yeast; however, there are many varieties of mead that include fruits, spices, and herbs. While many assume a honey-based beverage would be sweet; like wine, mead can be dry, semi-sweet or sweet. In this tasting you will sample a wide range of flavors and sweetness profiles paired expertly with sumptuous food by our Chef.
Sustainability and Nutrition: Gaia’s Way Farm is a historic property dating back to 1744, originally built by the Holcombe family who are one of the founding families of Lambertville and Hunterdon County. The farm has been thoughtfully restored but upgraded to be a sustainable, off-grid, solar powered, organic farmstead where sunflowers and honey are currently being cultivated. As part of your dining experience, the Owners/your hosts for the evening, Lia and Jason, will provide a tour of the home and talk about its many historic and sustainable features.
Mead is a very sustainable drink. It does not require specific topography or climate conditions to produce its base fermentable (honey) nor does it require vast fields or infrastructure, just locally sourced honey. In addition to being a more sustainable product than wine or beer, honey has a lower glycemic index than table sugar or high-fructose corn sugar so your body metabolizes it better, has natural antibiotic properties, contains pollens that may help reduce your susceptibility to allergies, and relies on bees which are our number one pollinator.
The food being paired with each mead is being sourced locally and organically whenever possible. At Gaia’s Way Farm this is an important part of our ethos so you can be assured that not only will your dinner tasting be delicious, but it will be as sustainably and responsibly sourced as possible.
Your tasting experience is all-inclusive. That means it comes with 12 different mead tastings and a 5-course dinner tasting. Each dinner course will be served with two meads. Prior to dinner as guests arrive and a historic home tour is provided, guests will be served a light mead to toast with and start the evening. Following dinner, a final mead toast will be offered to close the night. We cannot accommodate special diets, allergies, restrictions or substitutions at this event. If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, we suggest you consider visiting the farm at another time. All ticket sales are final and non-refundable.
